NEW UNWOMAN ALBUM: BLOSSOMS!

March 28th, 2008

11:46 am - Instant Bootleg
This is my new song, as played last night. Note the loud crowd noise -- especially appropriate as the song is basically about taking the fact that people don't listen to/like me personally (or not). What you can't hear on the recording (though a giggle near the recording device was probably inspired by it) was the opening act Dark Oz and his girlfriend dangerously approaching having Mad Hippie Sex on the dancefloor right in front of me. Not what my music is intended to inspire, but I'm glad when people are having a good time. Thanks to [info]buz for coming to the gig & helping even though he was sick, buying me the recorder for Xmas, and recording the set! Also to MY MOM [info]katmulkey (welcome to LJ Mom!) for helping with the merch and being the best.

Five people came to see me, including my mom and Buz. I never thought it was possible that my draw would actually decrease as I became a better performer, but that's life.

The new song has been called "All Over Now" as I've been working on it, since that's the first line I wrote for it, which begins the chorus. I think that title is cheesy so don't be surprised if it changes. Or suggest a new one based on the lyrics (which are also not final.)

Lyrics behind the cut. )

01:10 pm - Old demo version of Little Mermaid
Especially for [info]euphoricdaze

http://www.unmediated.net/mp3s/TheLittleMermaidOldDemo.mp3

It was recorded in August 2000, live, but I overlaid a different recording & included it, reversed, during part of the chorus. This song was included on the Unwoman mp3 CD, of which I sold about 20 copies in 2002-03, then decided it was poorly organized and that I wanted to only sell things on CD Baby so that I wouldn't have to go to the post office myself, and stopped selling it. There was a different version of Mermaid that I think only got out on Napster of that same live recording w/o the reversed vocals, but I may actually be mixing up which version went where.

It's really cool seeing the songs that I set free on mp3.com and Napster in 2000-2001 come back to haunt me in a good way, in the form of new fans. Thinking of this has made me realize that it's better to err on the side of having *more* free downloads available. So I added a few more mp3s as well and will be redesigning my website in the next few weeks so that it's easier to navigate for folks who want free mp3s. For now you can sneak them here.

03:54 pm - House of the Rising Sun
Fucking Russians! :D

http://mp3mega.net/base/mp3/2007-08-30/7515_erica_mulkey-house_of_the_rising_sun.shtml

What's funny about this is I was just thinking I wanted to share my rendition with folks (but probably rerecord it -- this recording is at least 8 years old) but wasn't sure I had room to host it. But why bother when a russian site hosts it for me? :)

Now, the site is fully in Russian, and my Russian best friend is out of town so I don't know how to actually download the track, but I really hope they're not charging money as this was only ever a free download.

Anyway, I will post a shiny new version one of these days, featuring my voice in a less adolescent state. My version is pretty much based on Joan Baez's version.

This *really* makes me wonder how many of my old mp3s I posted many years are still floating around the interwebs...
