| 07:15 pm - Zvue Spirit MP3 Player (America, F Yeah!) [Music]
http://feeds.gawker.com/~r/gizmodo/full/~3/292640682/zvue-spirit-mp3-player-america-f-yeah http://gizmodo.com/391480/zvue-spirit-mp3-player-america-f-yeah
Sure, the iPod has marketshare...and what may prove to be a timeless style. But you know what kicks the crap out of that stuff? Patriotism. And nothing says "America" like red, white and blue along with a star-shaped control panel. And that's what the Zvue Spirit is ready to offer.
The Spirit stores 1GB of tunes, including 15 preloaded patriotic tracks like Lee Greenwood's God Bless The USA. At just 2"x 1 3/8, it seems a little small for American Hummer-driving, Big-Gulp-drinking tastes. But who are we to ever question something that in some way almost resembles the American flag? Pre-order your Zvue Spirit today for $35.99. [Zvue via anythingbutipod]

| 11:38 pm - Researchers cram bio-signal monitoring system inside baseball cap
http://feeds.engadget.com/~r/weblogsinc/engadget/~3/292638925/ http://www.engadget.com/2008/05/17/researchers-cram-bio-signal-monitoring-system-inside-baseball-ca/ Filed under: Wearables Never before has headgear been so intrinsically linked with actual brain waves. Thanks to a team of researchers looking to create a method for "continuously monitoring high-temporal resolution brain dynamics without requiring conductive gels applied to the scalp," a new baseball cap has been created to do the trick. Said hat conceals five embedded dry electrodes which contact the wearer's forehead, while a single electrode behind the left ear acquires EEG signals. From there, the data is transferred wirelessly and can be processed in real-time to determine a driver's level of drowsiness, for instance. The gurus behind the invention have high hopes for its future, and they've already envisioned it being used in a plethora of medical scenarios and for controlling home electronics. To those about to rock this -- prepare for some serious hat-hair.Read | Permalink | Email this | Comments

| 08:00 pm - FCC Filing Teases WiMAX Option for Future Apple MacBooks [Apple]
http://feeds.gawker.com/~r/gizmodo/full/~3/292560437/fcc-filing-teases-wimax-option-for-future-apple-macbooks http://gizmodo.com/391487/fcc-filing-teases-wimax-option-for-future-apple-macbooks
A new FCC filing for an Intel 5350 WiFi/WiMAX combo card that fits into Mini PCI Express slots is probably the best evidence yet for future WiMAX functionality in Apple MacBooks, but it's still far from a confirmation. The bottom line is that with the new card, the WiMAX option officially exists for MacBooks, but as of yet there are no drivers written that would allow it to work with Apple's line of laptops. You could actually hack your laptop and plug the card in just fine as it is now, but without the drivers (which do exist for Windows), it's pretty useless. That said, the drivers—especially with Intel Macs—are a mere Leopard update or MacBook redesign away. [FCC Filing via ComputerWorld]

 | 11:30 pm - Help, I'm a spoiled kitty cat! I've been working on repairs to my newly purchased house. There is a sun porch in the back over looking a heavily wooded area with lots of birds and other animals.
This is myself with a 20 pound Norwegian Forest Cat in the sun porch. There are two other kitty cats as well. I think it's fair to say that their lives get easier at every turn.

 | 08:22 pm - World's Biggest Swimming Pool.

( more pictures )
jacked from cellar.org:
If you like doing laps in the swimming pool, you might want to stock up on the energy drinks before diving in to this one.
It is more than 1,000 yards long, covers 20 acres, had a 115ft deep end and holds 66 million gallons of water.
Yesterday the Guinness Book of Records named the vast pool beside the sea in Chile as the biggest in the world.
But if you fancy splashing out on one of your own - and you have the space to accommodate it - then beware: This one took five years to build, cost nearly 1billion and the annual maintenance bill will be 2million.
The man-made saltwater lagoon has been attracting huge crowds to the San Alfonso del Mar resort at Algarrobo, on Chile 's southern coast, since it opened last month.
Its turquoise waters are so crystal clear that you can see the bottom even in the deep end.
It dwarfs the world's second biggest pool, the Orthlieb - nicknamed the Big Splash - in Morocco , which is a mere 150 yards long and 100 yards wide. An Olympicsize pool measures some 50 yards by 25 yards.
Chile's monster pool uses a computer- controlled suction and filtration system to keep fresh seawater in permanent circulation, drawing it in from the ocean at one end and pumping it out at the other.
The sun warms the water to 26c, nine degrees warmer than the adjoining sea.
Chilean biochemist Fernando Fischmann, whose Crystal Lagoons Corporation designed the pool, said advanced engineering meant his company could build 'an impressive artificial paradise' even in inhospitable areas.
'As long as we have access to unlimited seawater, we can make it work, and it causes no damage to the ocean.'

 | 08:16 pm - Tabitha's Kittens - Rita Remember this thumbnail?

Well, instead of waiting every so often and then posting a new set, I figured I'd post more frequently but focusing on one kitten per set. Figure it should take five days to finish this run.

 | 11:03 pm - Yankee Stadium I'm going to be watching the Yankees beat the Red Sox on the Fourth of July at Yankee Stadium and am concerned about what I could possibly eat there. I can't think of any standard stadium food that would be acceptable other than plain potato chips. Do any of you know if it's possible to bring some snacks in? Their website isn't being too helpful, unless I'm looking in the wrong places.

 | 07:49 pm - busy weekend part 1 after a restless night, i got up and made my way to the atm and then onward to the city. it was nice and not hot. packet pick up was easy and so i got shirts for interimlover and i. i then found a cute pirate headband and bought "the stick". i rushed back and made it to class early even if i was going to take pilates. so i iced up my increasly bad shin splints and sore calf.
then a classmate ran a warmup barre and then alonzo king took stage. it was an interesting experience. first he didn't want us to worry about getting the choreography right or even look/talk to others. that took out a lot of the adult students right away. then he rotated the front around and caught people looking at others. he thought we caught me looking at someone so i had to go right ot the front. at one point he gave an intricate phrase and i was the only one who could remember so i had to do it over and over so everyone could get it.
then we did posing. evenutally our individually created 5 poses had to come rapidly and i just couldn't do it... evcen when asked to demonstrate. gah. then we did movement across the floor. first by running full force (yep, that's was made my leg worse, but he wasn't letting people off the hook), then add a turn, jump, level shift. then finally, move it to a different space. there was some nice stuff. i tried some summersaults, cartwheels, belly flop slide, wacky walks, and bear walk.
to end, we created a piece with several poeple contributing. toward the end i was allowed to contribute, but i couldn't remember what i did the first time so i ended up busted a b-boy move which made the next person's work harder. king openly stated that. i was a little apologetic because it ocurred me right after i did it that only a roll was going to work.
anyway, i had fun. suprisingly got a lot good and bad compliements from mr. king. i also injured myself and i have to be up at 5:30am. however, i do have a lot of hope for the audition tomorrow. Current Mood: accomplished

 | 07:38 pm - 446: Crazy Time... I've been sleeping most of my last days at Whittier away and lovin' it... But it's getting a bit more sweltering, and sleeping is a sweaty business when you're air-conditioning-less. But I know when I get back to Sac, it's gonna be even *hotter*...
Did I mention yet? I'm ready to be home. I dove into doing all this stuff this semester, and did a good job of pushing it back down, but the homesickness is back in full force and I'm a girl with a plan...
See, I'm planning on doing all this stuff, right? Getting out and into Sacramento culture, so I can soak it all up before I come back down here. Andy needs to get faaaabulous!
And me and Laura got awful fabulous last night. We weren't even doing anything... We drove out to find something to eat, and it seems like everyone had turned off their icecream machines, but we still moving around to the beat and generally acting like we were drunk. It was *awesome*. ;D
Oh, and then I had my AICH2 final today... At 8. A.M. It went a lot better than I was dreading (I mean, I don't think by 'moderate essay' they meant a big 10 page thing, in one of those little blue books, but anywho...) and I think I'll be studying for the other two tonight.
I can't wait to get back home, though. I'm already gone mentally. I'll be sure to keep y'all up to date on everything I'll be doing. In the meantime, I'm counting down the 72 hours until I am *back*, baby, BACK. Current Mood: excited
